Effective Test Taking Skills

  • Self-talk: staying focused and relaxed
    • "I can do this. I'm going to try my best and get through it."  
  • Memory download
    •  If appropriate-write down all the definitions, formulas, etc.
  • Behavioral momentum
    • building confidence through answering easier items first
  • Plan of attack
    • Budget time based on point values
  • Knowing key aspects within directions
    • answer format, length, space restrictions
  • Different strategies for different question types
